Madi-Okollo's historical roots run deep, with its crown jewel, the Ajai Game Reserve, playing a pivotal role in preserving the region's natural heritage. Established in 1962 as the White Rhino Sanctuary and later renamed Ajai Game Reserve in 1965, this captivating sanctuary spans an area of 148 square kilometers (15,800 hectares) with an altitude ranging from 700 to 1,000 meters. Because of its role in the white rhino’s ancestry, we call this district “The White Rhino’s Roots.”
